SOLITUDE

The beach chairs were all put away
Awaiting yet another day
The sun was just about to rise
There was serenity to be found in the morning skies
Walking along I could sense your touch
It was your absence that I missed so much
You were present in my every thought
We had shared those emotions so many sought
Only a seagull or small bird was about
This was a peaceful moment, there was no doubt
Sand dunes seemed to stretch endlessly beyond my sight
The ocean was calmer now, in the new daylight
You said we must part so you could seek your dream
At first I couldn't understand why life was so mean
Unable to leave because so many others depended on me
It was then that I realized, that you had to be free
Walking here on the beach one can hear that call
Seductive and transfixed it beckons us all
Some can follow their calling and seek what they desire
Others must remain to see the remnants of the fire
Perhaps you might return so we could rekindle the flame
But we both know it will never be the same
Each time the shore beckons me here
It will bring warm memories and a small tear
Never to languish or feel remorse or be sad
Just warm memories of all the love we had
Listen to your soul and know you have my support
May you always understand the happiness you've brought
Our love was as precious as this calm morning air
Hopefully you will know how much I did care
