SEASONS OF THE HEART
Spring
Skipping over babbling brooks,
running with the wind,
holding tight to treasures
and gabbing with your friends.
Writing sweet love letters
no one ever sees,
chasing after butterflies
or climbing blooming trees.
Fun is passing notes in class,
never getting caught.
Flirting with a new love
he's just the thing, you thought.
Spending days with laughter,
things are so much fun.
All the world's in front of you
for life has just begun.
Summer
Dancing in the garden,
sniffing sweet wildflowers,
you find that special person
and you laugh and talk for hours.
There's wedding bells and old shoes
honeymoons and rice,
you think you own the whole world;
you'll never pay the price.
Everything is on your plate.
you know that you can't lose
Then the children come along,
a bigger house you choose.
All life is full of passion,
you give everything your best.
Car pools, day care, summer school
there's never time to rest.
Autumn
The shades of life are brilliant,
each day's a different hue.
There's red and gold and amber,
some are even blue.
You've moved to a new neighborhood,
they have better schools.
The kids won't go for scholarships,
but you know they are no fools.
Dad's at business meetings,
Mom has country club,
Sis has a new boyfriend
and Junior's at the pub.
You live life at a hectic pace
your smiles turn to frowns.
There's never time to do enough,
you'll stop if you slow down.
Winter
All the kids are gone now,
the house is clean and still.
Now there's time to do the things
that you put off, until.
Somehow it isn't quite the fun
you once thought it would be.
Days are spent in wicker chairs
under that big oak tree.
Sometimes you wish you had them back,
those times you thought you'd break.
The days when you still owned the world,
and your old bones didn't ache.
Sitting in your rocking chair
the world is still brand new.
All you need is to close your eyes
to bring it back to you.
