I knew a man who got so full
Of wisdom, of a kind,
That he believed the God we love
Was "just a state of mind"

He smiled indulgently at those
Who spoke of Heaven and Hell ...
"Show me ONE person who's been there!"
Triumphantly he'd yell.

Then came an angel to his home

A baby to there abide ...
And in two big brown eyes he saw
The Heaven he had denied.
